It (feminism) is mixed up with the middle idea that women
are free when they serve their employers but slaves when they help their
husbands. –GK Chesterton
While doing some research and also some grading for one of the classes my husband teaches I compiled a list of very helpful facts about our roles as men and women. Obviously we are complimentarians, but biblically this seems to be the only option about marriage. I post this here as a help and a reference for myself and for others who are needing the complied work.
Gen 218 Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper as his complement.” 19 So the LORD God formed out of the ground every wild animal and every bird of the sky, and brought each to the man to see what he would call it. And whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the sky, and to every wild animal; but for the man[n] no helper was found as his complement. 21 So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to come over the man, and he slept. God took one of his ribs and closed the flesh at that place. 22 Then the LORD God made the rib He had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 And the man said:
This one, at last, is bone of my bone
and flesh of my flesh;
this one will be called “woman,”
for she was taken from man.
24 This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh. 25 Both the man and his wife were naked, yet felt no shame.
Women’s other jobs besides
being obedient to all that God has commanded:
Submission-
1. Wives,
be submissive to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Colossians 3:18
2. Now
as the church submits to Christ, so wives are to submit to their
husbands in everything. Eph 5:24
3. 22
Wives, submit to your own husbands as to
the Lord, 23 for the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is
the head of the church. He is the Savior of the body. Eph 5:22-23
4. In
the same way, wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, even
if some disobey the Christian message, they may be won over without a message
by the way their wives live. 1 Peter 3:1
Sex- Give the husband/wife their sexual rights.
3 A husband should fulfill his marital responsibility to his wife, and likewise a wife to her husband. 4 A wife does not have the right over her own body, but her husband does. In the same way, a husband does not have the right over his own body, but his wife does. 5 Do not deprive one another sexually—except when you agree for a time, to devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again; otherwise, Satan may tempt you because of your lack of self-control. 6 I say the following as a concession, not as a command. 1 Cor 7
Faithful- (staying with her husband and also not
being an adulteress) Marriage is binding
1 Cor 7:39 A wife is bound as long as her husband
is living. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to anyone she
wants—only in the Lord.
Respect-
To sum up, each one of you is to love his wife as
himself, and the wife is to respect her husband. Eph 5:33
Day to Day Responsibilities-
14 Therefore, I want younger women to marry, have
children, manage their households, and give the adversary no opportunity to
accuse us. 15 For some have already turned away to follow Satan. 1
Tim 5:14-15
Care for Widows in their families-
16 If any believing woman has widows in her
family, she should help them, and the church should not be burdened, so that it
can help those who are genuinely widows. Eph 5:16
As they grow older their job changes a little to include
teaching younger women-
3 In the same way, older women are to be reverent
in behavior, not slanderers, not addicted to much wine. They are to teach what
is good, 4 so they may encourage the young women to love their
husbands and to love their children, 5 to be self-controlled, pure,
homemakers, kind, and submissive to their husbands, so that God’s message will
not be slandered.
Capable or Curse
Pr 12:4 A capable wife is her
husband’s crown,
but a wife who causes shame
is like rottenness in his bones.
but a wife who causes shame
is like rottenness in his bones.
Proverbs 31 Woman- Originally the
book of Ruth was situated in the Hebrew bible immediately following this
passage, sort of saying “Ruth is the human example of this type of woman”.
10 Who can find a capable wife?
She is far more precious than jewels.
11 The heart of her husband trusts in her,
and he will not lack anything good.
12 She rewards him with good, not evil,
all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax
and works with willing hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from far away.
15 She rises while it is still night
and provides food for her household
and portions for her female servants.
16 She evaluates a field and buys it;
she plants a vineyard with her earnings.
17 She draws on her strength
and reveals that her arms are strong.
18 She sees that her profits are good,
and her lamp never goes out at night.
19 She extends her hands to the spinning staff,
and her hands hold the spindle.
20 Her hands reach out to the poor,
and she extends her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid for her household when it snows,
for all in her household are doubly clothed.
22 She makes her own bed coverings;
her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is known at the city gates,
where he sits among the elders of the land.
24 She makes and sells linen garments;
she delivers belts to the merchants.
25 Strength and honor are her clothing,
and she can laugh at the time to come.
26 She opens her mouth with wisdom
and loving instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the activities of her household
and is never idle.
28 Her sons rise up and call her blessed.
Her husband also praises her:
29 “Many women are capable,
but you surpass them all!”
30 Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting,
but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised.
31 Give her the reward of her labor,
and let her works praise her at the city gates

Women’s roles in worship discussed
1 Cor. 11:3 But I want you to
know that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of the woman,
and God is the head of Christ.
Modest Women
1 Tim 2:8 Therefore, I want the
men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument. 9 Also, the women are to dress themselves in modest
clothing, with decency and good sense, not with elaborate hairstyles, gold, pearls,
or expensive apparel, 10 but with good
works, as is proper for women who affirm that they worship God. 11 A woman should learn in silence with full submission.
12 I do not allow a woman to teach or to have authority
over a man; instead, she is to be silent. 13
For Adam was created first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived
and transgressed. 15 But she will be saved through childbearing, if she
continues in faith, love, and holiness, with good judgment.
Not a nag
Pr. 21:19 Better to live in a wilderness than with a nagging and hot-tempered wife.
Take her husband’s teaching and not speak in church
1 Cor 14:33b-36 As in all the churches of the saints, 34 the women should be silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak, but should be submissive, as the law also says. 35 And if they want to learn something, they should ask their own husbands at home, for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church meeting. 36 Did the word of God originate from you, or did it come to you only?
Taken Care of by the church when they are widows
1 Tim5:9 No widow should be placed on the official support list unless she is at least 60 years old, has been the wife of one husband, 10 and is well known for good works —that is, if she has brought up children, shown hospitality, washed the saints’ feet, helped the afflicted, and devoted herself to every good work.
A pair is better than loneliness
Ecc4:9 Two are better than one because
they have a good reward for their efforts. 10
For if either falls, his companion can lift him up; but pity the one who falls
without another to lift him up. 11 Also,
if two lie down together, they can keep warm; but how can one person alone keep
warm? 12 And if someone overpowers one person, two can resist
him. A cord of three strands is not easily broken.
Gender, Racial and Positional Equality in Christ
Gal3:28 There is no Jew or Greek, slave or free, male or female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
